My Post Debate Analysis

Liberal's Bill Maher tweeted, "Obama made a lot of great points tonight. Unfortunately, most of them were for Romney." MSNBC host Ed Schultz said, Obama "created a problem for himself." Maryland Democratic Governor Martin O'Malley accidentally referred to Romney as "President" on live television. According to CNN polls, 67 percent of voters said Romney won while just 25 percent felt Obama won.

The Weekly Standard said "Mitt Romney stood and delivered the best debate performance by a Republican presidential candidate in more than two decades." MSNBC host Joe Scarborough tweeted," Tonight's debate has changed the trajectory of this race." Republican National Committee Chairman said,” I think tonight will go down as one of the most historical lop-sided debates in history." The Weekly Standard wrote,” In a thoroughly dominating performance, Romney bested Barack Obama in both tone and substance. Obama often found himself at the end of a verbal cul-de-sac, seemingly unaware of how he'd ended up there."

As I watched the debate I paid close attention to the demeanors of the two men. Obama spent much of the time listening to Romney by looking down at his notes as if he was searching for some magical teleprompter to pop up because he did not appear to be on top of his game when speaking. Many times he stuttered and paused searching for the words to pitch for his reelection. When he did finally look Romney in the eye it usually ended with a smirk and a shake of the head. When Obama spoke he addressed the camera as if he was speaking to the American people.

On the other hand, Romney looked Obama straight into the eye when he was speaking. He spoke strong and stern while making his points easy for the people to understand. When he listened to Obama speak he still kept his eyes fixed on him as if he was just waiting for him to stop speaking so he could straighten out the facts that Obama just tried to twist.

I felt Romney showed respect, dignity, and strength in the face of the President. And I believe that is what most Americans saw as they watched the debate. They saw a man that can be strong and lead when he wins the election.  The most critically clutch moment in the debate in my opinion was when Romney referenced the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence to describe what he feels is the role of the government:

“The role of government is to promote and protect the principles of those documents. First, life and liberty. We have a responsibility to protect the lives and liberties of our people, and that means the military, second to none. I do not believe in cutting our military. I believe in maintaining the strength of America’s military.
Second, in that line that says, we are endowed by our Creator with our rights -- I believe we must maintain our commitment to religious tolerance and freedom in this country. That statement also says that we are endowed by our Creator with the right to pursue happiness as we choose. I interpret that as, one, making sure that those people who are less fortunate and can’t care for themselves are cared by -- by one another.
We’re a nation that believes we’re all children of the same God. And we care for those that have difficulties -- those that are elderly and have problems and challenges, those that disabled, we care for them. And we look for discovery and innovation, all these thing desired out of the American heart to provide the pursuit of happiness for our citizens.
But we also believe in maintaining for individuals the right to pursue their dreams, and not to have the government substitute itself for the rights of free individuals. And what we’re seeing right now is, in my view, a -- a trickle-down government approach which has government thinking it can do a better job than free people pursuing their dreams. And it’s not working.
And the proof of that is 23 million people out of work. The proof of that is one out of six people in poverty. The proof of that is we’ve gone from 32 million on food stamps to 47 million on food stamps. The proof of that is that 50 percent of college graduates this year can’t find work.”

It speaks for itself. Last nights debate may be the beginning of a turn around that will lead to Romney’s 2012 election. Next debate is on October 11th between Vice President Joe Biden and Romney running mate Paul Ryan. Be sure to watch it!

Debates!

Tonight at 9PM ET the first Presidential debate will be taking place in Denver, CO. Be sure to tune in to FoxNews to watch the total debate and get good feedback on the issues discussed.

Don't under estimate the power of the debates! In 1980 Jimmy Carter held a strong 9% lead in every poll, much like Obama's lead over Romney in virtually every poll. Well after the debates and a strong showing by then Gov. Ronald Reagan, he won in a landslide election where he won 44 total states! History can repeat itself tonight and I hope you all get to be a part of it!
